The Information Store service stops responding when an IMAP4 user uses a list command to list the public folders in Exchange Server 2003

Symptoms

The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service stops responding when an Internet Message Access Protocol version 4rev1 (IMAP4) user sends a list command to list the public folders in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • The IMAP4 user does not have a private mailbox on the Exchange server.
  • The Exchange server does not let IMAP4 users list the public folders.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Because of file dependencies, this software update requires Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
