Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

File information
The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the
Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Registry information
To activate this hotfix, you must create or modify registry subkeys. To do this, use one of the following methods:
Method 1: Create registry subkeys in the Microsoft subkey
Note You can activate this hotfix on a per-user basis or on a per-machine basis.
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click one of the following registry subkeys:

- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type IEXPLORE.EXE, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify, type 1, and then click OK.
- Click FEATURE_RESPECT_USER_TOKEN_LOCAL_APPDATA_KB893627.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type EXPLORER.EXE, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify, type 1, and then click OK.
- Click FEATURE_RESPECT_USER_TOKEN_LOCAL_APPDATA_KB893627.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type WINLOGON.EXE, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify, type 1, and then click OK.
Note The valid values for the IEXPLORE.EXE, EXPLORER.EXE, and WINLOGON.EXE subkeys are 1 and 0. The value of 1 activates this hotfix. The value of 0 disables this hotfix. - Quit Registry Editor.
Method 2: Create registry subkeys in the Policies subkey
Note You can activate this hotfix on a per-user basis or on a per-machine basis.
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

- Click Internet Explorer.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
- Type Main, and then press ENTER. If this subkey already exists, go to the next step.
- Click Main.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
- Type FeatureControl, and then press ENTER. If this subkey already exists, go to the next step.
- Click FeatureControl.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
- Type FEATURE_RESPECT_USER_TOKEN_LOCAL_APPDATA_KB893627, and then press ENTER.
- Click FEATURE_RESPECT_USER_TOKEN_LOCAL_APPDATA_KB893627.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click STRING Value.
- Type IEXPLORE.EXE, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify, type 1, and then click OK.
- Click FEATURE_RESPECT_USER_TOKEN_LOCAL_APPDATA_KB893627.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click STRING Value.
- Type EXPLORER.EXE, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify, type 1, and then click OK.
- Click FEATURE_RESPECT_USER_TOKEN_LOCAL_APPDATA_KB893627.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click STRING Value.
- Type WINLOGON.EXE, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify, type 1, and then click OK.
Note The valid values for the IEXPLORE.EXE, EXPLORER.EXE, and WINLOGON.EXE subkeys are 1 and 0. The value of 1 activates this hotfix. The value of 0 disables this hotfix. - Quit Registry Editor.
Activating this hotfix changes the file location that Internet Explorer uses to process the Group Policy objects. Old location:
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
New location:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
The locations of the Brndlog.txt file and the Rsoplog.txt file are based on which Application Data folder is being used to process the Group Policy object.
