Symptoms

If you press F6 to load drivers when you set up an Itanium-based version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003, you may receive a "STOP 7b" error message after the text-mode part of the setup process.

Cause

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • The driver for a mass storage device is 64-bit capable.
  • The .inf file for the driver does not include the appropriate INF decorations.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest drivers for your hardware, and then run Setup again.
