You receive an "ERROR: The filename or extension is too long" error message if you use Reg.exe to save a registry key in Windows Server 2003

Symptoms

If you use Reg.exe with the save option to save a registry key, the command does not work, and you receive the following error message:
ERROR: The filename or extension is too long
However, if you run Reg.exe with the save option again, the command works correctly, and you receive the following message:
The operation completed successfully
