FIX: OLE DB Provider for DB2 incorrectly returns the

Symptoms

When an application tries to open more than 128 SQL statements at the same time by using Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 OLE DB Provider for DB2 (DB2OLEDB), OLE DB Provider for DB2 incorrectly returns the following error message:

SQLSTATE: 58003, SQLCODE: -144
This SQLSTATE error indicates that a section number that is not valid was detected.

Cause

OLE DB Provider for DB2 is designed to support a maximum of 128 concurrent SQL statements per connection. However, OLE DB Provider for DB2 does not return an error message that correctly describes the problem when this limit is reached.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. After you apply this hotfix, OLE DB Provider for DB2 returns the following error message when the 128 SQL statement limit is reached:

SQLSTATE: HY000, SQLCODE: -1500

Message: The maximum number of statements (128) has been reached for the current connection.
