"The data area passed to a system call is too small" error message when you try to specify network or storage drivers for Windows PE in SMS 2003


Symptoms

In Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003, when you try to specify network or storage drivers for the Microsoft Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) in the Properties dialog box of an operating system deployment package, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
The data area passed to a system call is too small.

Cause

This problem may occur when the full path of the driver file is longer than SMS 2003 can handle.

Workaround

To work around this problem, use a shorter file name for the file, or move the file so that its full path is shorter.

More Information

This problem may also occur when you create the operating system deployment package, and you set the path of the package source.
