Symptoms

You may experience a paged pool memory leak when many Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based clients create, copy, and delete files on an NTFS file system partition. The memory leak is small. Therefore, the problem appears after several days. The following event is logged in Event Viewer:
Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Srv
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	2020
Description:
The server was unable to allocate from the system paged pool because the pool was empty.

These symptoms appear to be resolved if you restart the server.

Service pack information

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
