Symptoms

In Microsoft Commerce Server 2002, when you try to add a Data Warehouse resource to an existing Commerce Server 2002 site, you receive the following error message:
msmdarch.exe not found, system may not have the necessary OLAP installations, this will break the OLAP cubes creation. Its recommended to skip the Data Warehouse installation. You can install it later on.
Note In this error message, the word "It's" is misspelled as "Its."

When you click OK, you are returned to the Data Warehouse page of the Commerce Server Site Packager dialog box. You receive this error message even if you receive the following message when you click Test Connection in the Data Warehouse page of the Commerce Server Site Packager dialog box:

Cause

This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services is not running on the Web server where you want to unpack the Data Warehouse resource.
You specify a remote Analysis server in the Analysis Server Properties area of the Data Warehouse page of the Commerce Server Site Packager dialog box.
Commerce Server 2002 requires that SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 3 (SP3) be running on the Web server where you want to unpack the Data Warehouse resource.

Important While Commerce Server 2002 requires that Analysis Services be running on the Web server where you unpack the Data Warehouse resource, you do not have to specify the local computer that is running Analysis Services when you add the Data Warehouse resource. Instead, you can specify a remote computer that is running Analysis Services when you unpack the Data Warehouse resource. Therefore, after you unpack the Data Warehouse resource, you can remove Analysis Services from the local Web server.

Workaround

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
1.On the Web server where you want to unpack the Data Warehouse resource, install SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services together with SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 3 (SP3).
2.Add the Data Warehouse resource. Specify the remote computer that is running Analysis Services when you do this.
3.Remove Analysis Services from the Web server where you added the Data Warehouse resource.
