You are unexpectedly logged off when you try to connect to a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP

Symptoms

If you try to connect to a remote computer, you cannot log on to the remote computer. This symptom occurs in any one of the following scenarios:
  • You try to connect to a remote Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer by using a Terminal Services session.
  • You try to connect to a remote Windows Server 2003-based computer by using a Remote Desktop Connection session.
  • You try to connect to a remote Microsoft Windows XP Professional-based computer by using a Remote Desktop Connection session.
  • When you offer remote assistance to a Windows XP Client, you are unable to connect after the user accepts the offer.
Although you cannot connect, you receive the following messages:
Please wait
Loading your personal settings
Please wait
Applying your personal settings
Please wait
Saving your settings
The remote computer processes your logon request. However, the remote computer never completes your logon request, and you are subsequently logged off the remote computer.

Cause

This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • An NVIDIA video adaptor is installed on the client computer.
  • An issue exists with the version of the NVIDIA video adaptor driver that is installed on the client computer.
The NVIDIA video adaptor driver is preventing you from successfully establishing a connection to the remote computer.

To resolve this issue, contact NVIDIA to inquire about the availability of an updated video adaptor driver to fix this issue. Workaround

To work around this issue, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Stop or turn off the NVIDIA Display Driver service (Nvsvc32.exe) on the client computer. For information about how to do this, see the documentation that is included with the driver, or visit the following NVIDIA Web site:

Method 2

Roll back to the previous version of video adaptor driver on the client computer. To do this:
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
  2. Click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.
  3. Click the Adapter tab, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Driver tab, and then click Roll Back Driver.
