The data in an ICMP error packet from a host computer may be truncated or missing in Windows Server 2003

Symptoms

The data in an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) error packet from a host computer may be truncated or missing if the size of the packet that caused the error is between 1280 and 1308 bytes. This missing data may prevent the receiving computer from processing the error packet, because the error packet cannot be related to the packet that caused the error.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
