Introduction

This article describes the Microsoft Office Excel 2003 issues that are fixed in the Excel 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated September 9, 2004.

Issues that are fixed in the hotfix package

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • When you import a text file (.prn) that contains Hebrew text in Excel 2003, the text direction of the columns and the text direction of the text in the columns are incorrect.
  • When you try to remove multiple custom toolbars that are attached to an Excel 2003 workbook, all the attached toolbars that you select are not removed.
  • When you open a document that was sent as an attachment to an e-mail message from Excel 2003 on a computer that has an earlier version of Microsoft Office installed, you receive one of the following error messages:
Permission for this document is currently restricted. If you are not running Microsoft Office 2003 or an application that supports documents with restricted permission, you can read this document by downloading the Rights Management Add-on for Internet Explorer.
Cannot open document with restrictive permissions. We are unable to open this document.
This issue may occur when all the following conditions are true:
    • You use Information Rights Management (IRM) on the Excel 2003 document that is sent as an attachment.
    • You have the Rights Management Add-on for Microsoft Internet Explorer installed on the computer that does not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed.
    • You open the e-mail attachment on a computer that does not have Office 2003 installed.
We provides a fix that resolves this issue in both Word 2003 and Excel 2003. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
