More information

When you install a service pack, and then you install post-service pack hotfixes consecutively for a Microsoft Windows product that is listed in the "Applies to" section, you are performing an installation scenario that has not been tested by Microsoft. This scenario is not supported if you do not restart your computer between the service pack installation and the post-service pack hotfix installations.

For example, the following installation scenario is not supported:
  1. You install a Windows service pack.
  2. You install a Windows post-service pack hotfix.
  3. You install a second Windows post-service pack hotfix.
  4. You install a third Windows post-service pack hotfix.
  5. You restart your computer.
Note Microsoft suggests that you always restart your computer after you install a service pack or a post-service pack hotfix.
