More information

When the Host Integration Server 2004 client is configured to have SnaBase run as a service, only a user who has administrator rights can run SNA Server applications. If a non-administrator user tries to run a SNA Server application like the 3270 Client, the user receive the following error message:
ERROR - The SnaBase Service is not started.
The SNA Server application does not have sufficient security permissions to detect that the SnaBase service is running and the application fails.

We recommend that you configure the Host Integration Server 2004 client to run SnaBase as an application instead of as a service, because the application requires fewer security permissions and uses fewer system resources.

If you must run SnaBase as a service, add the non-administrator user to the HIS Runtime Users group. (You can add the user to the HIS Administrators group. However, the HIS Administrators group has more user rights than the application requires.)

Note By default, if SnaBase is configured to run as a service, the service is set to manual startup. If the SnaBase service must run after a computer is restarted, you must change SnaBase to automatic startup.
