You receive the "Installation failed" message when you try to install Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 Client

Symptoms

When you try to install Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 Client, and you do not have administrator permissions, you receive the following message:

Installation Failed

Installation failed and the changes were reversed.

A Logfile has been created in your temp directory.


You may also receive the following error message if you do not install the Enterprise Single Sign-On Administrator components before you install Host Integration Server 2004 Client:
The following platform components failed to install and will need to be manually installed before setup can proceed: Enterprise Single Sign-On Administrator, Enterprise Single Sign-On Administrator SDK

Workaround

To work around this problem, install Host Integration Server 2004 Client with an account that is a member of the local Administrators group.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Log on without administrator permissions.
  2. Start the Host Integration Server 2004 Client installation.
  3. Select the install options, and then complete the remaining steps of the installation wizard.

    After a brief period, you receive the message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
