Prerequisites
To install this hotfix, you must have Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed.
Restart requirement
You do not have to restart your computer to install this hotfix. However, the following Exchange and Microsoft Internet and Information Services (IIS) services are automatically restarted when you install this hotfix:
- World Wide Web Publishing Service
- Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP)
- Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine
- Microsoft Exchange POP3
- Microsoft Exchange IMAP4
- IIS Admin Service

Hotfix installation instructions
After you install this hotfix, you must configure a registry entry to enable the hotfix. To do this, follow these steps.
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeTransport\Parameters
Note If the Parameters subkey does not exist, follow these steps:- Right-click MSExchangeTransport, point to New, and then click Key.
- Type Parameters as the subkey name, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type DisableInetOverride as the entry name, and then press ENTER.
- Right-click DisableInetOverride, and then click Modify.
- In the Value data box, type a value of 1, and then click OK.
- Quit Registry Editor.
- Restart the Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) service. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
- Right-click Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP), and then click Restart.
If the DisableInetOverride entry is set to 0 or does not exist, the Outlook e-mail message format settings are used.
