You may receive an error message when a PXE client computer contacts a Windows Server 2003-based computer that is running RIS and DHCP with two IP addresses for one network adaptor

Symptoms

When a Pre-Boot eXecution Environment (PXE) client computer contacts a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer that is configured with two IP addresses for one network adaptor and is running both Remote Installation Services (RIS) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), you may receive the following error message on the PXE client computer:
PXE-E55: ProxyDHCP service did not reply to request on port 4011.

Cause

This behavior may occur if the computer that is running RIS has a single network adaptor that is configured with multiple IP addresses.

This behavior does not occur if the computer has one network adaptor for each IP address.

Workaround

To work around this behavior, add another network adaptor, and then make sure that each network adaptor is configured with only one IP address.
