The installation of Microsoft Message Queuing 3.0 is not successful in a child domain when you use an Enterprise Administrator account

Symptoms

The installation of Microsoft Message Queuing 3.0 is not successful in a child domain when you use an Enterprise Administrator account. This problem occurs when you try to install Message Queuing 3.0 with Downlevel Client Support in the child domain by using an account that has Enterprise Administrator permissions from the parent domain.

For example, in the following scenario, the installation of Message Queuing 3.0 is not successful:
  • You are logged on as a local Domain Administrator with Enterprise Administrator permissions in the parent domain. The parent domain is also known as the A domain.
  • You try to install Message Queuing 3.0 in the child domain. The child domain is also known as the B domain.

Note This problem still occurs when you install Message Queuing 3.0 that has routing enabled on the child domain controller.

Cause

This problem occurs when the replication of the following Message Queuing Active Directory objects is not completed:
  • MSMQ-Configuration object
  • MSMQ-Settings object
When the replication delay occurs, the Message Queuing 3.0 service cannot start. This problem occurs because the Message Queuing 3.0 service cannot find the Message Queuing Active Directory objects. When this problem occurs, the Message Queuing 3.0 installation is rolled back.

Workaround

To work around this problem so that you can install Message Queuing 3.0 successfully, you must log on by using an account that belongs to the child domain. This account must be a member of the child domain local Domain Administrator group. For example, if you install Message Queuing 3.0 in the abc domain, you must log on to the abc domain by using an account that is a member of the abc domain local Domain Administrator group.

Note This problem is fixed in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
