Symptoms

On your Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 computer, the Exchange Intelligent Message Filter does not scan e-mail messages.

Cause

This problem occurs when the network basic input/output system (NetBIOS) name of the Exchange 2003 computer that is running the Intelligent Message Filter is 15 characters long. If the NetBIOS computer name is 15 characters long, the Intelligent Message Filter cannot bind to the server correctly.

Prerequisites

To install this hotfix, you must have Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart your computer to install this hotfix. However, the following services are automatically restarted when you install this hotfix:
  • World Wide Web Publishing Service
  • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
  • Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine
  • Microsoft Exchange POP3
  • Microsoft Exchange IMAP4
  • IIS Admin Service

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.
