You may receive a "The form contains schema validation errors" error message when you convert the main data source of a solution to a new schema in InfoPath 2007 or in InfoPath 2003 Service Pack 1

Symptoms

In Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007 and in Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1), when you convert the main data source of a solution to a new schema, your form may not open. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
InfoPath cannot open the following file: FileName.xml.
The form contains schema validation errors.

Cause

This problem occurs because the Convert Main Data Source command makes changes to the XML schema of the form. The Convert Main Data Source command also turns off the Automatically upgrade existing forms option. This option is located on the Tools menu under Form Option.
