This article describes the Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine issues that are fixed in the Jet 4.0 Database Engine post-837001 hotfix package. This hotfix is dated July 21, 2004.

The issue that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article is fixed in this hotfix package:
884404 You may receive the "Access reserved error - 7711" error message when you try to run the Make-Table query or the Append query on a linked ODBC Sybase table in Access 2002 or in Access 2003

The following issues are fixed in this hotfix package but were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • After you use Microsoft Access to create a replica that is in a replica set, a problem may occur when you try to use Jet 4.0 Service Pack 7, Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8, or the 837001 hotfix to synchronize the database with that replica over the Internet. You may receive the following error message:

    Invalid HTTP Address

Note This same issue may occur when you use Data Access Objects (DAO) to synchronize the database with the replica.
  • When you try to open a table in Access that is linked to a Microsoft Excel worksheet file (.xls), you may receive the following error message:

External table is not in the expected format
  • When you use version 4.0.5325.0 of the ODBC Mspbde40.dll file driver or later versions for a Paradox database, some queries may not return any records.
  • If you create a partial replica that uses a filter, such as Country="usa", after you install Jet 4.0 MS04-014, the operation may not be completed successfully. You may also receive the following error message:

    Invalid filter expression
  • When you use Access to create a query that is based on an empty Paradox 4.x-linked table that is protected with a password, you may receive the following error message:

Reserved error (-7); there is no message for this error
  • When you use Access to link to an AS400 table, you may receive the following error messages:

    Invalid Index Definition
    Index already exists
