After you install Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004, a set of default system policy rules are installed to enable access to and from the ISA Server computer (Local Host network). These default system policy rules also enable access to services that are typically required for the network infrastructure to function correctly.
System policy rules are designed to control access from the ISA Server computer only. System policy rules help with the following:
 | Access to the authentication process |
 | Remote management |
 | Monitoring and logging |
 | DNS and DHCP functionality |
 | VPN features |
 | Access to selected Web sites for the purposes of updates and error reporting |
After you install ISA Server 2004, you must carefully review the system policy rules that are enabled, so that access is not allowed to services that are not required to manage the network.
