Steps to modify the FA Fixed Assets Inventory List Report to Sort by Physical Location

Issue

I want the Fixed Assets Inventory List (Reports | Inventory | Fixed Assets) to sort by physical location ID.

Resolution

Go into Report Writer (Tools | Customize | Report Writer, choosing Fixed Assets as the Product).

Opening the Report:

Click on the Reports icon from the top menu bar.
From the Original Reports side, highlight the FA Fixed Assets Inventory List and choose Insert.
Then on the Modified Reports side, highlight the same report and choose the Open button.
In the Report Definition window choose the Sort button.

Sort:

In the Sorting Definition window, click on the drop down list for the Report Table and select the Asset General Information Master file.
In the Table Fields section, highlight the Physical Location ID and choose the Insert button.
Choose the OK button.

Layout:

Choose the Layout button.

Report Section Options:

Choose the Tools option from the top menu bar, then select Report Section Options.

Create an additional header:

In the Additional Headers section choose the New button.
Click on the drop down list for Report Table and choose the Asset General Information Master.
In the Fields section, highlight Physical Location ID.
Select the OK button.

In the Report Section Options window, select the OK button.

Bringing fields onto the report:

In the Toolbox choose Asset General Information Master from the drop down list.
In the scrolling window find Physical Location ID and drag it into the H1 section on the report.

Leaving Report Writer:

Choose the X from the top right corner of the Report Layout window.
Save your changes.
Click OK in the Report Definition window.
From the top menu bar, choose File |Great Plains Dynamics.
Give users access to the modified report in the Security Setup window (Setup |System |Security) within Dynamics.
