This article provides the steps to properly delete a company from Microsoft Dynamics GP and prevent the error message stating the company already exists.
When you try to create a new company, you may receive an error message that states that thecompany already exists.
To delete a company that is no longer desired:
- Start Microsoft Dynamics GP, and log on with the ‘sa’ login.
- At the Company Login window, select a company that you do not want to delete, and then click OK.
Note The company being deleted cannot have a user logged into it. - Make sure that no users are logged on to the company that you want to delete. To do this, use one of the following methods:
- Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 and Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0
On the Microsoft Dynamics GP menu, point to Tools, point to Utilities, point to System, and then click User Activity. - Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0
On the Tools menu, point to Utilities, point to System, and then click User Activity.
- Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 and Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0
- Select the company that you want to delete. To do this, use one of the following methods:
- Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 and Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0
- On the Microsoft Dynamics GP menu, point to Tools, point to Utilities, point to System, and then click Delete Company.
- Click the lookup button. Then, click the company that you want to delete.
- Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0
- On the Tools menu, point to Utilities, point to System, and then click Delete Company.
- Click the lookup button. Then, click the company that you want to delete.
- Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 and Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0
- Click Delete.
Note When you click Delete, the company is deleted from the DYNAMICS system database. - Delete the company database from the computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server. For Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010, to have us delete the company database from the computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server, go to the "Fix it for me" section.For Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, Dynamics GP 2010, Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0, or Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0, to delete the company database from the computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.
Fix it for me
For Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010, to run the scripts to delete the company database from the computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server automatically, click the Fix this problem button or link. Click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.
Note this wizard may be in English only; however, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.
Note if you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD and then run it on the computer that has the problem.
Let me fix it myself
For Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010, Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 or Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0, to run the scripts to delete the company database from the computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server yourself, use one of the following methods, depending on the version you are using: -
- In SQL Server Enterprise Manager, follow these steps:
- Expand the folder of the computer that is running SQL Server.
- Expand the Databases folder.
- Right-clickthe company database, and then clickDelete.
- In SQL Server Enterprise Manager, follow these steps:

- In SQL Server Management Studio, follow these steps:
- Log on to SQL Server.
- In Object Explorer, expand the Databases folder.
- Right-click the company database, and then click Delete.
- In the Support Administrator Console utility, follow these steps:
- Log on to SQL Server.
- In the query window, type drop database name of the company database.
- To run the query, click the green arrow button on the toolbar.
