Compressed (zip) files that are on an offline resource are listed in the Search Results window in Windows XP and in Windows Server 2003 even if you do not choose the "Search tape backup" option

Symptoms

When you search for a file in any one of the Microsoft Windows operating systems that are listed in the "Applies to" section, the Search Results window may list compressed (zip) files that are contained on an offline resource. This may occur even if you do not choose the Search tape backup option.

For example, you may click Start, and then click Search.

Note The Search tape backup option can be found under More advanced options when you search for all files and folders.

Windows Server 2003 hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
