More information

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Install Commerce Server 2002.
  2. Unpup the BlankSite package.
  3. Copy the following text to a new document in Notepad:
' oGenID is a Commerce Server GenID object.
    Dim oGenID
    Dim sCounterValue

    Set oGenID = CreateObject("Commerce.GenID")

' Connect by using an explicit connection string.
    oGenID.Initialize "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=ServerName;" _
     & "Integrated Security='SSPI';Initial Catalog=BlankSite_commerce"

    oGenID.InitializeCounter "NewOrderTracking", 400

    sCounterValue = oGenID.GetCounterValue("NewOrderTracking", 3)
    msgbox sCounterValue
Note Replace ServerName with the correct server name.
  4. Save the text document as Genid.vbs.
  5. Start Windows Explorer.
  6. Navigate to the Genid.vbs file.
  7. Double-click the Genid.vbs file, and then double-click the Genid.vbs file again.

The counter value in the message box should remain constant at 400. However, because the InitializeCounter method call does not reset the value, the counter is incremented by the GetCounterValue method call.
