Symptoms

You use Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2006, ISA Server 2004, Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway Medium Business Edition, or Windows Essential Business Server 2008 to publish a Web site that requires a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection. After you do this, client computers may receive the following error message when they try to visit the Web site:
Error Code 500 Internal Server Error.

The target principal name is incorrect. (-2146893022).

Cause

This problem occurs if the name that is included in an SSL client request from ISA Server or Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway Medium Business Edition does not match the common name that is specified in the Web site certificate.
