View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

You cannot start or stop an in-process Microsoft BizTalk Server host instance on a remote BizTalk Server because the host has a Running status of "Status unavailable". This is the expected behavior when you view the properties of an out-of-process host instance, because no service is associated with an out-of-process host instance. This is an unexpected behavior when you view the properties of an in-process BizTalk Server host instance.

Cause

This behavior occurs if File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is not bound to either the network adapter that is used by the computer that is connecting to the remote BizTalk Server or to the network adapter that is used by the BizTalk Server that is being remotely administered.

Resolution

To resolve this behavior, enable File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on the network adapter that is used by the computer that is connecting to the remote BizTalk Server and on the network adapter that is used by the BizTalk Server that is being remotely administered. BizTalk Server Administration uses Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). WMI depends on File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks to work remotely.
