An HTML object that is embedded in Word or WordPad will not open if Internet Explorer is already open

Symptoms

When you double-click an HTML document that is embedded in Microsoft Word or WordPad, the HTML document may not open in a Microsoft Internet Explorer browser window as expected if another instance of Internet Explorer is already open.

Workaround

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • Close all instance of Internet Explorer that are currently open before you open the HTML document in Word or WordPad.
  • Do not embed an HTML object in the Word file. Instead, use a hyperlink.
