FIX: A program may stop responding, and you may experience other unexpected behaviors when a new modal dialog box opens in an ASP.NET program

Symptoms

When your Microsoft ASP.NET program opens a new modal dialog box by using the Window.ShowModalDialog method, your program may stop responding. You may also experience other unexpected behaviors. This problem occurs when the new modal dialog box uses the SmartNavigation property to enable refreshing between different postbacks.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 service pack that contains this hotfix.
