Outlook 2003 crashes after you perform an unattended install of the Turkish version of Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000

Symptoms

After you perform an unattended installation of the Turkish version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows 2000 on a computer, when you start Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 on that computer, Office Outlook 2003 unexpectedly crashes.

Cause

This problem occurs if a user locale is not specified in the answer file. In this scenario, incorrect entries are set in the following registry subkey during the unattended installation:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International
The following registry entries are not set correctly:
  • iCurrency
  • iDate
  • iNegCurr
  • iTime
  • iTLZero

Windows Server 2003 hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Workaround

To work around this problem, specify the locale in the answer file that you use for the unattended installation. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Notepad, and then open the answer file that you want to modify.
  2. Locate the [RegionalSettings] section.
  3. Delete the text that is in the [RegionalSettings] section, but do not delete the [RegionalSettings] heading.
  4. Under the [RegionalSettings] heading, type the following line:
    UserLocale=0000041f
  5. Save the answer file.
