The OCR tool in Microsoft Office Document Imaging does not retain text format styles in Word


Symptoms

When you use the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) tool that is available in Microsoft Office Document Imaging to copy text from a paper document to a Microsoft Office Word document, the format of the text may change. For example, the font type, the font size, and the alignment of the text may change.

Cause

The OCR tool that is available in Office Document Imaging may not recognize all text format styles that are present in the source document image. Therefore, after you copy the text from a document image to a Word document, you must manually format the text.

You may be able to use third-party OCR software to retain more of the text format styles that are present in the source document image.
