Controls on an Excel 2003 or Excel 2010 worksheet change size after you change the screen resolution

Symptoms

When you change the display resolution while Microsoft Office Excel 2003 or Microsoft Excel 2010 is running, controls change size when you click them. For example, this problem may occur with the command button. The controls become larger or smaller.

Resolution

This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you installed the latest Office 2003 service pack, you do not have to install the hotfix.

This problem is corrected in Office 2003 Service Pack 1.

More Information

To use this hotfix for Excel 2003, follow these steps:
  1. Exit all the programs that are running.
  2. Click Start, and then click
    Run.
  3. In the Open box, type
    regedit, and then click OK.
  4. Locate, and then click the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\office\11.0\common
  5. On the Edit menu, point to
    New, and then click Key.
  6. Type Draw, and then press Enter.
  7. On the Edit menu, point to
    New, and then click DWORD value.
  8. Type UpdateDeviceInfoForEmf, and then press Enter.
  9. Right-click UpdateDeviceInfoForEmf, and then click Modify.
  10. In the Value data box, type
    1, and then click OK.
  11. On the File menu, click
    Exit to close Registry Editor.
To resolve this problem for Excel 2010, follow these steps:
  1. Exit all the programs that are running.
  2. Click Start, click Run, in the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate, and then click the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\office\14.0\common
  4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
  5. Type Draw, and then press Enter.
  6. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD value.
  7. Type UpdateDeviceInfoForEmf, and then press Enter.
  8. Right-click UpdateDeviceInfoForEmf, and then click Modify.
  9. In the Value data box, type
    1, and then click OK.
  10. On the File menu, click
    Exit to close Registry Editor.
