When connecting to Exchange server using non-MAPI client applications such as Outlook Express, you have the option to connect using POP3 or IMAP4 protocol. Both protocols are configured using System Manager to set the proper encoding for outgoing and incoming messages.

To set the message encoding for the POP3 protocol
1- Launch System Manager
2- Expand Servers and then expand the server you want to adjust its POP3 protocol settings
3- Expand Protocols then expand POP3
4- Right click on Default POP3 Virtual Server and select Properties
5- Select the Message Format tab
6- From the Character set list, select the character set you want to use with POP3 messages

To set the message encoding for the IMAP4 protocol
1- Launch System Manager
2- Expand Servers and then expand the server you want to adjust its IMAP4 protocol settings
3- Expand Protocols then expand IMAP4
4- Right click on Default IMAP4 Virtual Server and select Properties
5- Select the Message Format tab
6- From the Character set list, select the character set you want to use with IMAP4 messages

Note:To display messages with Arabic subject properly, you should adjust character set encoding for both MIME and non-MIME messages to be Arabic Windows 1256. As this setting affect the POP3/IMAP protocol on the server you are configuring, other servers in the organization should be adjusted with the same encoding.
