You can still redirect hard disks when the "Connect client drives at logon" setting is not selected on an RDP-TCP connection in Windows Server 2003

When drive mapping is enabled on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server that is running in Application Mode, you can still have hard disks that are redirected in a Terminal Services session when both of the following conditions are true:

• You click to clear the Use connection settings from user settings check box.
• You click to clear the Connect client drives at logon check box.

The Use connection settings from user settings and the Connect client drives at logon settings are contained in the RDP-Tcp connection properties in the Terminal Services Configuration tool. Although these settings are visible in the user interface and can be configured, the settings apply only to Citrix Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) protocol sessions and do not apply to Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions.

Note To disable client drive mapping during a RDP-TCP connection, open the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box for the server, and then click to clear the Disk Drives check box under the Local devices group on the Local Resources tab.
