The MTA quits unexpectedly while processing a long address that contains embedded DDA values in Exchange Server 2003

Symptoms

The Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Message Transfer Agent (MTA) Stacks service may quit unexpectedly, and you may see a call stack that is similar to the following:

Cause

This problem may occur if a user on your network sends a message that contains a large embedded domain-defined attribute (DDA) value to an X400 address.

Resolution

Software update information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
