Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
You install Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer.
The domain forest functional level is set to Windows Server 2003.
In this scenario, you cannot add users to the private address book (PAB) in Microsoft Outlook.

Note Forest functional levels let you enable features across all the domains in a forest. For more information about forest functional levels in Windows Server 2003, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Cause

This problem occurs because Exchange Server does not distinguish between the id and extid fields of the attribute cache when the current domain's forest functional level is set to Windows Server 2003. Therefore, the Active Directory directory service returns a MAPI mapping error.
