BUG: Commerce Server 2002 Standard Edition fails when hyperthreading is enabled on a computer with two processors

Symptoms

When hyperthreading is enabled on a computer with two physical processors, a Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Standard Edition installation detects the processors as four processors. Because Commerce Server 2002 Standard Edition only supports two processors, you may receive the following error message when you try to access a Commerce Web site:
Configuration object failed to initialize because Commerce Server Standard Edition supports a maximum of two processors (CPUs)

Resolution

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Note After you apply the hotfix, you must use the Global Assembly Cache Tool (Gacutil.exe) to manually register the Microsoft .NET Framework assembly in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC). To register the assembly, type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:
gacutil /i Microsoft.commerceserver.interop.configuration.mscscfg.dll

Workaround

To work around this problem for Commerce Server 2002 Standard Edition, disable hyperthreading in the BIOS on computers that use two physical processors.
