Symptoms

When you use the Automated System Recovery (ASR) feature in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, you cannot configure ASR to save the .bkf backup file to a network drive. You may experience this issue in one or both of the following scenarios:

Scenario 1

When you use the ASR wizard in Windows Server 2003, if you try to specify a network drive for the location of the .bkf backup file, you receive the following message:
The specified path is not the local path to this computer. It may not be accessible at recovery time. Do you wish to continue?
Scenario 2

When you start your computer from the Windows Server 2003 startup disk and press F2 to enter ASR mode, you are prompted to save the .bkf backup file to a floppy disk. You cannot specify a network drive for the location of the .bkf backup file.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, specify a local storage location such as a local tape device for the location of the .bkf backup file instead of a network drive when you use the ASR feature.
