WMI decoupled method provider does not return status in Windows Server 2003

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you have a client program that uses Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to create a decoupled method provider, and the decoupled provider tries to send an error code (HRESULT) from the IWbemServices::PutInstanceAsync method or the ExecMethodAsync method, the decoupled provider subsystem remaps the error to "Not Found" (0x80041002). This problem prevents the provider from reporting the actual error to the client. This problem does not affect the GetObjectAsync method or the CreateInstanceEnumAsync method.
