Win32_LogicalDisk does not provide removable disk information in Windows Server 2003

Symptoms

When you use Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, instances of Win32_LogicalDisk for removable media drives only return data specific to a device itself. These instances do not report any data that is relative to the inserted media, such as data from a floppy disk.

With removable media drives, the Win32_LogicalDisk class does not report the following attributes:
  • Compressed
  • FileSystem
  • FreeSpace
  • MaximumComponentLength
  • Size
  • SupportsFileBasedCompression
  • VolumeName
Because the Win32_LogicalDisk class does not report these attributes, you cannot use this class to determine if media are present. For example, you cannot use this class to determine if a drive contains a floppy disk.

Hotfix information
