Client receives a "403.7 Client certificate required" error message when trying to open a Web page

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When a client tries to open a Web page that resides on a Web server that requires a client certificate through Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server (Outgoing Web Request), the client receives the following error message:
403.7 Client certificate required

CAUSE

The Web server sends the error message to the client because ISA Server does not send the client certificate to the Web server even if you correctly add a client certificate for this HTTP/HTTPS bridging rule. This problem occurs if you set up an ISA Server routing rule as follows:
On the Bridging tabs, enable SSL Requests (Establish a secure channel to the site) in the Redirect HTTP Request as frame.
On the Bridging tabs, click to select the Use a certificate to authenticate to the SSL Web Server check box, and then select a valid client certificate.
On the Action tabs, enable the redirecting them to a hosted site option.
