You cannot insert an object type in Office

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you click Object on the Insert menu, and then view the Object type list on the Create New tab, you may find a Microsoft Office Template and Media Control object. However, when you try to insert the object type, the control does not insert.

Note This object type is not an insertable control. You may also experience this behavior with other object types that are listed in the Object type list.

Cause

This behavior occurs because the Object dialog box displays all the registered ActiveX controls on your computer, including the controls that you cannot insert.

More information

There is not a workaround or resolution for this behavior. The Object dialog box in Microsoft Office cannot determine if a registered ActiveX control is insertable or not. If you try to insert the object type, and it does not insert, the object type is not supported even though it may be listed in the Object type list.
