Internet Explorer Quits Unexpectedly When You Use a Touch Screen or a Virtual Keyboard to Submit a Form

Symptoms

When you try to use a touch screen or virtual keyboard to submit a form on a Web page in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
When you view the details of the error message, you receive an error signature that is similar to the following:
AppName       AppVer         ModName     ModVer         Offset

Iexplore.exe  6.0.2800.1106  Mshtml.dll  6.0.2800.1141  00019b20
Note This problem does not occur if you use a desktop keyboard or a mouse to submit a form on a Web page.

Resolution

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
