Cause

This problem may occur if a proxy server is configured in Microsoft Internet Explorer but the Bypass proxy server for local addresses option is not enabled. The Setup program does not check whether proxy server settings in Internet Explorer are configured correctly on the server.

This problem may occur in situations when you install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 from a Remote Installation Services (RIS) server by using an RIS image that uses the default proxy server settings for Internet Explorer, and when the Bypass proxy for local address option is not enabled.

Workaround

To work around this problem, enable the Bypass proxy server for local addresses option in the proxy server settings of Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Explorer, if it is not already started.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings under
    Local Area Network (LAN) settings.
  4. Under Proxy server, click to select the
Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box, and then click OK
  5. Click OK.
