Symptoms

When you use the Active Directory Domains and Trusts snap-in to create a trust, you may receive the following error message:
Operation failed. Parameter incorrect.

Cause

This issue may occur if you try to establish a trust relationship when the source and the target domains have one or more of the following identifiers that are the same:
Security identifier (SID)
Domain Name System (DNS) name
NetBIOS name

Resolution

To resolve this issue, do one of the following before you try to create the trust, as appropriate to your situation:
Rename the conflicting identifier.
Use a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) if there is a NetBIOS conflict.
