Errors in the UDDI Services Web User Interface Are Not Recorded in the Application Event Log

Symptoms

If an error occurs in the UDDI Services Web user interface, you receive an error message, as you expect. However, no error event appears in the application event log.

You expect all UDDI Services error events to be logged in Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

This problem occurs because the functionality to log error events from the UDDI Services Web user interface is not included in Windows Server 2003.

Resolution

Hotfix Information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

After you install this hotfix, you must modify the Windows registry to enable the logging of the events that are described in the "Symptoms" section of this article. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

    Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\UDDI
  3. Right-click UDDI, point to New, and then click Key.
  4. Name the new key Web.
  5. Right-click Web, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  6. Name the new DWORD value WriteErrorsToEventLog.
  7. Right-click WriteErrorsToEventLog, and then click Modify.
  8. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  9. Quit Registry Editor.
  10. Restart Internet Information Services (IIS). To do this, type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:
    iisreset
