Symptoms

When you use a custom program to determine if an item has been downloaded in Outlook, the program may force the item to be downloaded.

Cause

This problem may occur if you use the RemoteStatus property in the Microsoft Outlook object model. The problem occurs because of a limitation in the RemoteStatus property. The RemoteStatus property requires access to a property of the e-mail message and forces the item to be downloaded.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, use the MarkForDownload property instead of the RemoteStatus property when you determine whether an item has been fully downloaded.

        ' Do Something
    ElseIf Item.MarkForDownload = olMarkedForCopy Then
        ' Do Something else
