Microsoft Exchange Information Store stops intermittently and logs Event ID 7031

Symptoms

The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service (Store.exe) may intermittently and unexpectedly stop. When this problem occurs, client computers that are connected to the Exchange 2000 Server computer are intermittently disconnected and reconnected, and the following event is logged in the system event log on the server:

Event ID: 7031
Source: Service Control Manager
Description: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this n times.

Cause

This problem may occur if an Exchange server receives an e-mail message that contains malformed Transport-Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) formatting. To restore functionality to the Exchange server, remove the message with malformed TNEF formatting.
