Branch Office Mode May Not Result in Balanced Connections

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

If you run a Windows Server 2003-based domain in Knowledge Consistency Checker (KCC) Redundant mode (also known as Branch Office mode), the connections might not be distributed evenly across the available bridgehead servers.

Cause

The first connection is created using the built-in KCC logic. The second connection object is created by using random selection logic that is not optimal. The new path can cause the selection of the second connection object to be unbalanced.
