Migration Wizard stops responding and events 14001 and 14004 are logged when you try to migrate mailboxes from an IMAP4 server

Symptoms

When you try to migrate mailboxes from an Internet Mail Access Protocol 4 (IMAP4) server by using Migration Wizard in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, Migration Wizard may stop responding. The following events are recorded in the application event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeMig
Event ID: 14001
Description: Error interpreting response from IMAP server.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeMig
Event ID: 14004
Description: IMAP socket error: 00002736. (Invalid Socket)


If you review the Dr. Watson Log or the User.dmp file that is generated by Dr. Watson, you see a call stack that is similar to the following:
